We are excited for the new school year! The first day of school is Monday, August 21. If you are new to Hornbrook Elementary, student registration is now available. Please contact the school if you have any questions. See you soon!
SPLASH DAY
Students, parents, and staff members enjoyed the day at Garfield Park in Ashland, Oregon. Sand volleyball, whiffle ball and the playground equipment kept the students entertained for most of the morning. The splash park has been revamped and a great wet day thrilled the Hornbrook Hornets! The barbecue lunch was also a hit and a cookie for dessert topped off the day.
Eighth Grade Quilt
Raffle tickets are available from the eighth grade class. $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00.
Science Labs with Jason
Hornbrook Elementary has partnered with the Siskiyou County Office of Education to enrich the science curriculum. Jason Singleton has been teaching specific science lessons to all of the students this year. The 4-8 graders are learning about mixtures and solutions. The second and third graders are learning about energy. Ms. Cole's class is learning about sound.
The second and third graders made whirly gigs on April 21,2022
The annual science fair was a smashing success! The students all participated and completed their projects by April 1st. Parents were able to view the projects in the gymnasium after the third quarter awards assembly. The TK-1 class learned about sound this year. The rain sticks they made produced a variety of sounds depending on the contents. It was not easy to guess the material that was in their rain stick. Great projects were created by everyone!
Golden Bough Performance
On Tuesday, April 5, 2022 the Irish group, Golden Bough, performed a variety of Irish tunes for the students and staff at HES.
The trio each played several instruments: the mandolin, violin, viola, harp, guitar, harmonica, drum and accordion.
The lively tunes had all of the students clapping and toe tapping. The melodies sang by the group brought smiles to everyone!
A big thank you to The Red Scarf Society for sponsoring this group's performance!
The Great Kindness Challenge
The Hornbrook Hornets recently participated in the Great Kindness Challenge. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Great Kindness Challenge. It all began with three California schools back in 2012. It has grown into a kindness movement with nearly 17 million students from 33,000 schools in 115 countries!
The students and staff members demonstrated acts of kindness throughout the first week of February. A few examples were:
making a kindness card for another person
decorating a poster or bulletin board with kind thoughts or messages
opening doors for others, and carrying out different acts that show kindness to others
The spirit of kindness was celebrated by dressing up their hair style or wardrobe. Friday was the grand finale with "Hats off to Kindness".
KINDNESS MATTERS!

A huge thanks to everyone who purchased See’s Candies! Our first major fundraiser was a great success.
We also want to thank the students who helped us make potholders. We sold all of the potholders we made for Christmas and will continue to make more. Thank you for buying our handmade potholders.
The quilt is beginning to take shape. We will start selling raffle tickets in Spring. Photos of the quilt will be posted soon.
